Which three? "The place where he was born: This is the first thing that is to be remembered by a head-anointed noble-warrior king throughout life. "Then again, the place where he was head-anointed as a noble-warrior king: This is the second thing that is to be remembered by a head-anointed noble-warrior king throughout life. "Then again, the place where, having won the battle, he then emerged victorious and ruled at the head of the battle: This is the third thing that is to be remembered by a head-anointed noble-warrior king throughout life. "These, monks, are the three things to be remembered by a head-anointed noble-warrior king throughout life. "In the same way, these three things are to be remembered by a monk throughout life. Which three? "The place where, shaving off his hair & beard, clothing himself in the ochre robe, he goes forth from the home life into homelessness: This is the first thing that is to be remembered by a monk throughout life. "Then again, the place where, through the ending of effluents, he enters & remains in the effluent-free awareness-release & discernment-release, directly knowing & realizing it for himself right in the here-&-now: This is the third thing that is to be remembered by a monk throughout life. "These, monks, are the three things to be remembered by a monk throughout life." Note 1. This is a standard way of indicating that he has become at least a stream-winner but not yet an arahant.
